First the Fugees, than Outkast, then Swedish House Mafia, now Illionis Hip-Hop duo The Cool Kids have decided to disband and pursue solo endeavors. Chuck Inglish and Sir Michael Rocks stopped by AllHipHop.com to announce the break up, saying:
“I don’t think we’re gonna come out again as The Cool Kids. We might come together as something else different, but as The Cool Kids, no, because we’re not the same people, we’ve changed and evolved into two different artists. We can’t come back and do the same thing again, you know? We’ll probably do something else, but as The Cool Kids and as Shark Week, no, those ideas are done, and we’re on to something different now. I wouldn’t do that; I think that would be a step backwards to go back and do that right now, so as far as I know for now, no I wouldn’t see us doing another Cool Kids project as “The Cool Kids.”
Although announced recently, true fans have seen this coming for a long time now with both doing great throughout 2012 on solo efforts. Inglish has been producing great instrumentals and building a stellar catalog with incredible tracks for artists like Kid Daytona, Schoolboy Q, Asher Roth, and Mac Miller. On the otherside Sir Michael Rocks has been busy building a buzz for himself releasing new material like his latest highly acclaimed mixtape Premier Politics
and Lap of Lux
. While separated, Rocks also signed a deal with Curren$y’s Jet Life Records.
Wish them both the best of luck in their future musical paths and hopefully we will see a return from the duo in the future. The Cool Kids hit the scene back in 2008 with their hit “88”. Other than signing with indie label Fool’s Gold, The Cool Kids never signed with a major label and progressed solely on the independent success.
