JAGUARS MAURICE JONES-DREW CHARGED WITH ASSAULT!
Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew has been charged with misdemeanor battery for an incident at a restaurant in St. Augustine, Fla., on Sunday. St. Augustine police say Jones-Drew knocked out a security guard in an altercation at the Conch House Restaurant and Marina. The incident occurred about 8 p.m. ET, according to police. Police allege in their report that Jones-Drew struck the security guard “on the left side of his head, knocking him out,” according to the Florida Times-Union. A friend of Jones-Drew was told to stop touching a woman and put his hands on the security guard, who then put the man in a headlock before Jones-Drew struck the guard with a closed fist to the cheek, according to the police report, a copy of which was also obtained by NFL.com. The Jaguars said in a statement they were “aware of the situation regarding Maurice Jones-Drew and are in the process of gathering more information. Due to this being a legal matter, we’ll have no further comment at this time.” Jones-Drew, 28, is trying to return from a Lisfranc injury in his right foot that cost him 10 games last season and ultimately required surgery. The NFL’s leading rusher in 2011 when he rushed for 1,606 yards, he gained just 414 yards and one touchdown last season before suffering a season-ending foot injury on Oct. 21.
