Kaboom! Magazine.com 14 New Shows You MUST WATCH in 2014. With the holiday season coming to an end and a new year upon us, many are already eager to see what is in store for them in 2014. With barely time to catch our breath or catch up on the best shows on the television last year; they’re new shows ready keep us at home glued to our chairs. In what is primed to be another huge year for TV networks, especially CBS and NBC, here’s a guide to which new shows you should be watching in 2014 with Kaboom! Magazine.com “14 New Shows you MUST WATCH in 2014.” New-HBO-Gay-TV-Show-Looking 14. Looking Network: HBO Premiere Date: Jan. 19th 8pm “Looking” is being called the gay-version of HBO’s “Girls”, but we’re thinking more like Showtime’s “The L Word.” The drama follows Patrick starting a new life in San Francisco, focused on him and his gay male friends looking for love. Even though same-sex marriage laws have been passed in almost every state, gay and lesbian shows have still had a hard time gaining popularity and acceptance. “Looking” plans to break the mold and become this social media generation historic show. gang-related-tv-show 13. Gang Related Network: Fox Premiere Date: Feb. 2014 In the gritty new action-drama GANG RELATED, Detective Ryan Lopez (Ramon Rodriguez, “Battle Los Angeles,” “The Wire”) is a rising star in Los Angeles’ elite Gang Task Force. What the world doesn’t know is that long before Ryan was a cop, he pledged allegiance to a different band of brothers a powerful Latino gang called Los Angelicos. When Ryan’s best friend and partner is senselessly killed by a notorious gang member, Ryan teams up with longtime Task Force member Cassius Green (RZA, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” “Californication”), who has been at the forefront of the city’s war on organized crime. In this war between law enforcement and gangs, the series explores how every villain has a noble cause, and every hero has a dark side. Greg-Kinnear-and-the-cast-of-Rake. 12. Rake Network: Fox Premiere Date: Jan. 23rd Based on a hit Australian series, the U.S. version of “Rake” stars Greg Kinnear as Keegan Deane, a defense lawyer who will stand up for anybody. His own life, however, is a mess of problems. This Fox show has a good pedigree — besides Kinnear, it stars Miranda Otto and Tara Summers and is executive-produced by Peter Tolan of “Rescue Me” fame. being-mary-jane 11. Being Mary Jane Network: BET Premiere Date: Jan. 7th This is a story to which millions of modern women will both relate and respond. Mary Jane Paul is a one-woman show: a successful TV news anchor and an entirely self-sufficient powerhouse who remains devoted to a family that doesn’t share her motivation. Intense drama and unforgettable moments unfold as Mary Jane juggles her life, her relationships, her work and commitments to her family. All day long, Mary Jane Paul puts out fires: saving a friend from a possible suicide attempt, tough-talking a niece who wants to do pornography, squaring off against unscrupulous co-workers who want to damage her reputation, talking in depth about her sex life with the wife of the man she’s sleeping with. tone-bell 10. Jerks with Cameras Network: MTV Premiere Date: Jan. 16th MTV has never been shy when it comes to prank shows. “Jerks with Cameras” will feature eight comedian pranksters who will head out into the streets with “unhidden cameras” to tease and harass unsuspecting pedestrians, then will bring their footage back to the studio to see who pulled off the best pranks. The in-studio portion, featuring a live studio audience, will be hosted by Comedian Tone Bell.

Mixology Network: ABC Premiere Date: Feb. 26th The series takes place all over the course of one night at a Manhattan bar called “Mix”, where six women and five men meet up for more than just a casual conversation and a drink. The episodes will follow two of the 11 characters as they meet each other for the first time and from there will determine the outcome in the season finale, which will be the end of the night. 446498976_640 8. Gotham Network: Fox Premiere Date: TBD “Gotham,” a Batman prequel show developed by The Mentalist creator Bruno Heller that will cover “the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made Gotham famous. In most chronologies, James Gordon; the man who will later become Commissioner Gordon, and Batman’s ally in the police department is a transplant to Gotham, which makes him an ideal point-of-view character to introduce audiences to whatever era or iteration of the city the new show chooses. Gotham is a rich setting, with a weird, dark, and substantially supernatural history; even without Batman-inspired supervillains, Fox will have mobsters, the occult, and, of course, the extended and creepy origins of Arkham Asylum. mtv-real-world-explosion-cast-w724 7. Real World: Ex-Plosion Network: MTV Premiere Date: Jan. 8th With “Jersey Shore” trailing off in the rearview, MTV tried to shake things up during the 29th season of The Real World, which first premiered in 1992, by putting seven strangers in a house – with their exes. The 12 castmates (only five former flames were willing to participate) will wreak havoc on host city San Francisco. John-Hurt-The-Strain 6. The Strain Network: FX Premiere Date: July 2014 A plane lands at John F. Kennedy International Airport with lights off and doors sealed. Epidemiologist Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Stoll) and his team are sent to investigate. On board they find two hundred corpses and four survivors. The situation deteriorates when the bodies begin disappearing from morgues. Goodweather and a small group of helpers find themselves battling to protect not only their own loved ones, but the entire city, from an ancient threat to humanity. true-detective 5. True Detective Network: HBO Premiere Date: Jan. 12th 9pm Season one stars Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Monaghan, Kevin Dunn, Tory Kittles, Michael Potts, Alexandra Daddario, and Elizabeth Reaser, and utilizes multiple timelines to trace two detectives’ hunt for a serial killer in Louisiana across seventeen years. The combination of Harrelson and McConaughey is reason enough to press record alone, but the series will feature a different cast of characters and storyline each season. undateable 4. Undateable Network: NBC Premiere Date: TBD Based on the book “Undateable: 311 Things Guys Do That Guarantee They Won’t Be Dating Or Having Sex” by Ellen Rakieten and Anne Coyle. “Undateable” begins with Danny who argeed to let his friend Justin move in with him. Everything seems to be going well, until Danny realize that he will inherit Justin’s friends in the deal. Danny nicknames the romantically challenged group “The Undateables” and, believing he is the ultimate player, sets out to teach them all he knows about “the game of love”. black-sails-banner 3. Black Sails Network: Starz Premiere Date: Jan. 25th “Black Sails” was written by creator Jonathan Steinberg (“Jericho”) as a prequel to the Robert Louis Stevenson children’s classic “Treasure Island.” The gritty hour-long series is set in a lawless world during the Golden Age of Piracy when Captain Flint is beginning his Messianic quest for the largest haul of treasure in the world. The bulk of the action takes place on the island, which is ruled by outlaw justice and overseen by a hard-talking beauty named Eleanor who buys and distributes the pirate’s looted goods through her father’s company. The pirates take refuge on the island since their murderous ways have made them marked men. Flint hopes to amass enough wealth to keep the pirate way of life alive, and safe from the ire of Colonial powers. Chicago PD - Season 1 2. Chicago PD Network: NBC Premiere Date: Jan. 8th From Emmy Award-winning executive producer Dick Wolf and the team behind “Chicago Fire” comes “Chicago PD,” a riveting police drama about the men and women of the Chicago Police Department’s District 21 who put it all on the line to serve and protect their community. District 21 is made up of two distinctly different groups: the uniformed cops who patrol the beat and go head-to-head with the city’s street crimes and the Intelligence Unit that combats the city’s major offenses – organized crime, drug trafficking, high profile murders and beyond. The vast responsibilities that these jobs entail extend far beyond the walls of the precinct, often taking an emotional toll on personal lives of these men and women. It has been reported that Chicago PD will have a crossover with Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in which Fin (Ice-T) and Rollins (Kelli Giddish) visit Chicago to find a serial rapist/killer who may have gone there after starting in New York. friends-w-better-lives-about 1. Friends with Better Lives Network: CBS Premiere Date: Mar. 31st 9pm FRIENDS WITH BETTER LIVES is a romantic comedy about six friends at different stages in their lives – married, divorced, newly engaged and single – who are outwardly happy, but secretly questioning if their friends have it better. Andi and Bobby are happily married with a toddler and another baby on the way, but at times long for the days when they had less responsibility and more fun; Will is newly single and preaching the bachelor lifestyle, but still pining for his ex-wife; Jules and Lowell are high on their passionate new relationship; and Kate has a successful career but may have a breakdown when she finds out her last remaining single friend, Jules, just got engaged. When it comes to relationships, these six friends are finding it a challenge to look at each other without wondering… who really has the better life?
