Bay Area Rapper The Jacka Gunned Down In Oakland
Hip-hop lost another member of its community Monday evening as 37 year-old Bay Area rapper, The Jacka, was shot and killed in Oakland, California last night. According to CBS San Francisco, Tha Jacka (whose real name is Dominic Newton), was gunned down on MacArthur Boulevard by 94th Avenue in the Eastmont area of Oakland. The reports say witnesses heard several gun shots go off around 8:15 PM local time, but no suspects have been identified as of yet. The Jacka was coming fresh off the release of his latest project, What Happened To The World, which dropped back in December. Jacka has been an established credible recording artist in the Bay Area community for many years and just recently gathered global recognition through features with well-established majors like Raekwon. The Jacka is mostly known for his collaboration project, “Highway Robbery” with former Roc-A-Fella recording artist Freeway. Other notable mentions include Lil Debbie, Freddie Gibbs, E-40, and Nipsey Hussle. Our hearts and prayers go out to the Newton family and the fans of The Jacka. May his presence live on forever in our hearts. Industry recording artists are flooding social networks with their condolences and prayers to The Jacka’s family.
