ANDRE LADON INTERVIEW W/KABOOM! MAGAZINE.COM
To all the ladies in the place with style and grace, allow us to introduce you to the man who is secretly taking over Hollywood. Via the lone star state, Andre Ladon has had celebrities the likes of Diddy, Danny Garcia, Draya Michelle, and Big Sean infront of his lens and now he’s setting his sights on the big screen. Andre recently sat down with Kaboom! Magazine.com and shared with us everything from being homeless to why he is rachet and clever. ANDDDDD……..ACTION! You come from a very conservative city in Texas. How did you end up in Hollywood?  Yeah Dallas is considered soulful in my eye, yet it’s not a bad thing because everyone sticks together. Moving to LA was the idea, but Hollywood felt to be the perfect area within the city for me. It’s close to everything and where most of my works are made. How long did it take you to get adjusted to the fast pace lifestyle of Hollywood? This is where being from Texas paid off. Our culture in Texas is considered slow and not up to date, so this crossed over to my lifestyle in LA which helps me really sit back observe and analyze all things near and far. Seeing all the good and bad things keeps me in my lane. How did you get into directing and production? Well this is crazy, but it actually all started because I became homeless here in LA. I had no financial backing and it was all my fault. I was given the chance to stay in LA thanks to an old college mate and fraternity brother that was living in LA, so I called him up and without a doubt I had a couch to crash on. My way to pay for my stay here was to be an on set assistant gripping, editing running, and all sorts of things that deal with helping the set/post production run smooth. This is where my observations and analyzation kicked in even more to where I paid attention to all the great things that went on, but more so the mistakes and before you know it I picked up a camera. I was destined to make mistake of my own but none that I’ve been through on prior sets which was what help tune my eyes from what looked “ok” to what looks “Great” on screen. DOCUMENTARY – DANNY GARCIA from Andre LaDon on Vimeo. Describe your famous saying “Somewhere between Rachet and Clever?” (Laughs) Great question! Well I I’m from a place called Oak Cliff in Dallas, so I know how Rachet things can be and I also got a decent education so I straddle the line all the time showing people both sides all at once. I like to be unpredictable. 11178349_10100149958779385_5406713298419915695_n Do you remember what happened during your first entertainment project (Whether it be photography or directing)? Wow the one that’s most fond in my memory is my first time meeting Diddy and filming him for a dinner in Atlanta. I was brought forth and introduced to him and he immediately said the most interesting thing to me. “I know who you are, who you think wanted you here to film? I did! I just got one thing to say… Don’t be out here speeding, DON’T SPEED!” and proceeded to party. I was so confused, but it was obvious what he meant. That was a pretty dope highlight. What is your most memorable moment from any of your past projects? The Dominican Republic trip with Ciroc for the Pineapple Ciroc campaign. We shot Cassie! I filmed and the great living legend Photographer Russell James took the photos. Epic! 10986470_10100115265829335_4989276652856882717_o Explain how you come up with ideas for projects such as Draya Michelle “Mint Swim” videos? Well Draya has her line going full speed ahead so making the models and her look good is a piece of cake. I like to make sure the angles are as exciting as the view (Laughs). I just get in there and shoot. Direction is easy working with models that trust you. What do you feel separates a good director from a “Must Have” director that everyone wants like Hype Williams, Dre Films, Mike Ho, and etc.? A director has to have their own lane. You know what to expect from these guys because you can identify their films and that’s when you know that you’re doing your job. You must be a tastemaker! Who is your favorite celebrity to work with? Besides Draya I’d say Big Sean. He’s groovy and super humble. Taking the time out to walk around saying hello to everyone on his sets. Pretty cool dude. Who is on your wish list of clients you would like to have throughout your career? Eventually I want to get to do feature films so this list can get pretty long (Laughs). Honestly I want to break and actor/actress preferably someone I’ve watched grow. I’m all about the struggle and overcoming it, so I want to make someone famous. If that makes sense. Draya has used you more than any other celebrity you’ve worked with and for good reason. Describe the chemistry that you two have with one another? Well Draya and I have a pretty interesting relationship because we are friends and business partners in a sense of marketing each other’s brand. She and I work hand in hand on each other’s time and make sure it represents us in the most impressive way. Draya Michele – Well Done from Andre LaDon on Vimeo. How has social media helped you in a positive way throughout your career?  Social media has definitely grown to be one of the largest marketing schemes in the world. You can either prosper or people can lose all interest in you. It’s given me the opportunity for all age ranges to witness my work and things I do as an individual for those who need the encouragement because at the end of the day your work starts and ends with the type of person you are. What are some of your goals that you want to achieve being a director? I want to make something that touches the world. What do you think about directing movies or TV Series at some point in your career? These all are things I want to eventually get into doing in the near future especially movies. 10479697_10100142472187575_1632383580316424653_n What do you think that you still need to improve on so you can take your career to the next level? I’m so set on it only being me who touches my work from directing to editing. I do it all, but I’ve been thinking about building a team as of late, because of all the work that’s coming my way fortunately. What else can we see from Andre Ladon in 2015? Ahhh! That there is only a mystery (Laughs) some things I’ve signed NDA’s about, so just sit back and keep your TV on……and CUT!
