Jerry Heller’s apparently making good on his promise to sue over his portrayal in Straight Outta Compton. According to TMZ, the former Ruthless Records exec filed suit against Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy-E’s estate, Universal, and pretty much anyone involved for making him looking like a scoundrel in the movie. Heller contends that he never withheld money from Cube, was never fired by Eazy, and “producers used his book without permission for pivotal scenes, including the one where Suge Knight strong-armed Eazy-E into signing away his rights to Death Row.”
Even before SOC made it to theaters, Heller bragged that he planned to watch the flick with his lawyer, and obviously they took notes the whole time. It’s almost like he was waiting for the box office totals to finally slow down so he could decide how much he would be suing for. Per the report, that tally is $110 million; $35 million in compensatory damages and “at least” $75 million in punitive damages. And it may not end there because the report indicates he plans to go after a portion of the movie’s profits, too. Compton… reportedly made more than $160 million at the box office after dominating sales for weeks.
