If you could have one photoshoot with one person (past or present) who it would have to be with…..: My ideal shoot would be with Mercedes Edison @unimerce_
Tell us a little bit about where you come from?
I’m from a small village just outside of Bristol. It’s a farming village so not a lot goes on here photography wise. I’m always heading into the local cities to shoot.
Growing up did you always want to be a photographer or did you have other dreams?
I only got given my first camera from my dad a couple of years ago. He’s a sports photographer and passes his old camera onto me. I then got the bug for photography and began shooting with models.
What was the first camera that you received?
What type of photography education have you’ve had?
All self taught. Trial and error.
Describe your style of photography?
Realistic and raw.
How did you get into photography?
Are there any photographers or artists who have inspired your work?
I’ve always looked up to photographers such as Marcus Hyde, Max Thomson and Ruhul Amin.
When you photograph individual subjects, how much time do you spend researching and getting to know them first?
I always like to get to know a model before a shoot. Whether this be thru email or text, it’s always better to have built a friendly relationship before a shoot.
Do you still remember your first photoshoot?
Yes. It was in a cold and badly lit warehouse, I was nervous as hell, but at the time I thought they were the best photos I’d ever taken. (Laughs)
Do you remember the moment when you realized that you were actually a talented photographer?
To this day, I still doubt my own work sometimes, it’s always good when people tell you they love your work, but in my eyes, I haven’t made it yet.
What is the wildest moment you’ve ever had during a photoshoot?
I was shooting at a old disused ammunition factory, I stepped back while composing a shot and fell down a 10 foot drainage shaft. Needless to say it hurt like hell, but I managed to save my camera so it was all good.
Sexiest photoshoot you’ve ever been apart of?
Probably shooting with Scarlet Bouvier was one that sticks in my mind. She knows how to work the camera and made my job a whole lot easier.
Over the years, did you ever encounter famous people who were very difficult to shoot?
Haven’t really shot anyone super famous, all the models I have worked with have been awesome and laid back.
How has social media influence your career?
Without social media, I’d find it very hard to get my work and there and for people to appreciate it. I owe a lot to Instagram.
Social media and photographers can be very profitable and very risky at times. Can you tell inspiring photographers some of the Do’s and Don’ts when it comes to involving your photography with social media?
Always watch out for the fun police…..keep those nipples censored people!
Where is the most fascinating place you’ve been to do a photoshoot?
I’ve yet to shoot at a exotic location, I’d love to get to LA at some point tho!
Explain how you come up with ideas for projects such as Videos /Photoshoots?
I like to just roll with it and let the shoot unfold naturally, I can then shoot the realist and raw style that I have.
How much planning do you do for each shoot, and how much happens naturally?
I don’t tend to over pose the models. I like natural movement and poses to happen on their own.
Do you coach or talk to your subjects about the expressions they will be making, or do you capture the spontaneous expressions from your conversation with them?
I’m more about spontaneous poses etc, but I’ve always said, it doesn’t matter how good you are at posing, if you can’t change a facial expression that pose is wasted.
What’s your single favorite photo that you’ve captured, and what’s the story behind it?
I’d say it would have to be the next photo that I’m going to take.
What do you think about working on big budget films at some point in your career?
Hmmm I’d love to but I don’t think my style of photography is very much called for in that field.
When you’re not working with models or capturing some of peoples greatest moments, what do you do in your spare time?
Photography is just a side gig for me at the moment. I work in a garage spraying cars as a main job, which I’ve been doing since I was 18.
How often do travel?
Not as much as I’d like to. Sponsors please…..?? 😉
Besides your equipment, what is one thing that you must have when you travel?
Let’s put you on the spot! Who is your favorite model/celebrity you’ve ever worked with?
Got to be Scarlet Bouvier.
Have you ever been starstruck by one of your subjects?
I always get nervous before a shoot, but after the initial meeting, the nerves go.
What are some of your ultimate goals that you would like to achieve being a photographer?
I’d love to go full time with it eventually and travel the work.
What would be your dream photoshoots?
Mercedes Edison @unimerce_ (make it happen)
How can people book you for their next photoshoot?
Slide into my DM’s or email me email@example.com
What’s next for you?
Lunch…..I’m kinda hungry!
