Netflix pulls The Punisher from New York Comic Con following Las Vegas tragedy

Netflix has canceled a panel and press conference for its upcoming Marvel series, The Punisher, at New York Comic Con following the recent tragedy in Las Vegas that left more than 50 dead after a mass shooting. Netflix and Marvel issued a joint statement that can be read in full below:
We are stunned and saddened by this week’s senseless act in Las Vegas. After careful consideration, Netflix and Marvel have decided it wouldn’t be appropriate for Marvel’s The Punisher to participate in New York Comic Con. Our thoughts continue to be with the victims and those affected by this tragedy.

Marvel’s Punisher series follows veteran soldier Frank Castle as he goes on a tour of vengeance, enacting revenge for crimes committed against his loved ones. Netflix has toted the series in marketing previews and trailers as one of the most violent Marvel shows. Many of the scenes feature Castle brandishing a gun.

Sunday’s tragedy was the largest mass shooting in modern United States history. During the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas, at least 59 people were killed by an armed assailant. More than 500 others were injured, according to the Las Vegas Police Department and as reported by Vox.

Netflix did not comment on whether the events in Las Vegas would affect The Punisher’s premiere date, which has not been announced.
