Study Shows More People Will Be Cheating in 2018
No matter what way you slice it, cheating sucks. No, let’s rephrase that: cheating really F’in sucks. That being said, regardless of the pain cheating causes, it continues to be on the rise with little sign of slowing down any time soon. We can all go ahead and thank new tech for that! Married dating sites like Ashley Madison make it possible for men and women to develop extramarital relationships at the click of button! Then again, blaming these platforms for cheating is a lot like blaming drug dealers for addiction. People are going to get it somewhere, right?
With that, it’s a new year and that means new beginnings, right? Cheaters are likely to wipe the slate clean and readjust their moral compasses! Erm, well, not entirely — Ashley Madison surveyed its members to find out who they rang in the New Year with and what resolutions they’re planning for 2018. According to the data, while 82% of respondents planned to kiss their spouse at midnight, surveyed members are resolved to continue their extramarital relationships and focus on the benefit of infidelity in their lives as they head into a new year.
Well, it doesn’t get much clearer than that, folks. The question remains however, if a cheater’s resolution isn’t to stop cheating, what is it? As it turns out, some cheaters are resolving to cheat more. The nerve! Fortunately, Ashley Madison managed to get some specifics that, hopefully, will serve as warning signs or at the very least, reassurance that once a cheater, always a cheater:
Top 5 New Year’s Resolutions with an extramarital partner
Increasing the amount of new experiences with my extramarital partner – 34%
Be healthier by eating better and exercising – 31%
Spending more time with my extramarital partner – 13%
Put in more effort to be discreet – 10%
Quitting an unhealthy habit (ex. smoking) – 6%
Hopefully the individuals who resolve to increase the amount of new experiences with their extramarital partner don’t go hanging that up on their refrigerator. Now that would just be in poor taste! Despite our reservations about cheating, Ashley Madison’s Director of Communications, Isabella Mise, suggests that their members are perfectly content with their lifestyle:
“Our members are showing us that they are already happy or on a pathway to finding happiness and that’s why they don’t feel the need to make a New Year’s resolution.”
That about sums it up, guys. Some cheaters are going to cheat more and others are so content that they see no sense in resolving to do better. Our advice? Be open and honest with your partner, spouse or otherwise. If an open-relationship is something you’re both interested to, all the more power to you! If it’s something you have to disguise, it may be more trouble than it’s worth.
