Toyota Partnering With Amazon, Uber, & Pizza Hut to Develop Self-Driving Store
Japanese automotive manufacturer Toyota is teaming up with Amazon, Uber, Pizza Hut, and more to form the “e-Palette Alliance,” a mobility services platform that utilizes its autonomous vehicles for food delivery and passenger travels alike. The initiative builds on Toyota’s Mobility Services Platform, which was revealed back in 2016, with the initial group of partners at launch assisting the automaker’s direction in developing its autonomous e-Palette concept vehicle. Toyota stated it wants to create a “common platform” and a “plug-and-play” platform for business and companies to build their own mobility service for consumers and offer services. As such, the company strives for three sizes of the self-driving car with an underlying open software platform to customize them to suit the needs of prospective businesses. Toyota plans to launch the e-Palette at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. We may even see the unveiling of Toyota’s flying car in the process.
