Parents Are Now Hiring “Fortnite” Coaches for Their Kids

As the Wall Street Journal reports, parents across the world are paying for private Fortnite coaches for their kids.

“There’s pressure not to just play it but to be really good at it,” one British mother explained to the WSJ. “You can imagine what that was like for him at school.”

The coaches are usually found through social media or special contracting websites, and “dedicated coaching marketplaces” like Gamer Sensei employ coaches that charge $15 to $35 USD an hour for lessons. Some parents are also paying for the Fortnite teaching sessions in hopes of training their children to become successful “e-sports athletes.”

While The Wall Street Journal piece has garnered a flood of sharp criticism on social media, one thing’s certain: as games like Fortnite continue to soar in popularity, so will pay-to-use services that cater to its players. As recent stories involving “Fortnite addiction” show, there’s definitely an expanding negative side as well.
