Instagram’s Co-Founders Resign

In breaking news, Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger have announced their resignation from the company, which is owned by Facebook Inc.

In the report by The New York Times, it goes on to state the pair have stepped down from their social media platform to “explore our curiosity and creativity again” amidst rumors of tensions brewing between Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. Bloomberg has also reported tensions about the direction of their photo-sharing app has been ongoing since Mark Zuckerberg bought Instagram back in 2012.

Zuckerberg issued a public statement about the departure saying he had “really enjoyed” working with Systrom and Krieger. “Kevin and Mike are extraordinary product leaders and Instagram reflects their combined creative talents,” wrote Zuckerberg. “I’ve learned a lot working with them for the past six years and have really enjoyed it. I wish them all the best and I’m looking forward to seeing what they build next.”

Systrom and Krieger will leave their current positions as chief executive officer and chief technical officer. Earlier this year, Jan Koum, co-founder of WhatsApp also stepped down from his position. The app was bought out by Facebook back in 2014.
