Marvel Almost Delayed Thanos’ Snap Until “Avengers: Endgame”

Marvel Almost Delayed Thanos’ Snap Until “Avengers: Endgame”

There’s no doubt Avengers: Infinity War is the biggest movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date, not only thanks to the 11 years building up to it and the massive roster of superheroes and characters involved but also because of its ending and how it left fans immediately hungry for Avengers: Endgame. Thanos‘ finger snap has become one of the most iconic moments in the entire MCU, but co-writer Stephen McFeely revealed to Empire recently that the seminal gesture and accompanying event was almost delayed until Endgame.

“We had so much story in those early drafts of Infinity War that, if anything, we thought we maybe shouldn’t do the Snap until the end of act one of Endgame“, the co-writer said. That decision would’ve been very surprising to fans, given how well it ended the movie and built hype for the second chapter, but Marvel Studios lead Kevin Feige offered an explanation. He said that the ending to Infinity War had been discussed for years, but ultimately the shock value of closing out on the snap and killing off half the universe, including half the Avengers, prevailed. ”It was the reason to adapt Infinity Gauntlet,” the Marvel Studios boss said. “What was the most shocking thing we could do? End the movie with the Snap.”

Avengers: Endgame will be out April 26, so it’s not a long wait until fans of the franchise can finally find out what happens after the snap.
