DOLCE & GABBANA SENTENCE TO 20 MONTHS IN PRISON FOR TAX EVASION

After more than seven months on trial for tax evasion, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana (Dolce & Gabbana) were convicted and sentenced Wednesday to 20 months in jail, according to WWD. The designers had already been hit with a $440 million fine by Italy’s Tax Commission as punishment for their crimes, which stemmed from a 2008 investigation into the 2004 sale of Dolce & Gabbana to a Luxembourg-based company. Italian officials believed they were using it as a holding company, designed to keep the designers from paying Italy’s high corporate tax rates.

And the case had been dismissed once (in 2011), and though their lawyer had requested a full acquittal in the current trial, Italian judge Antonella Brambilla saw enough merit in the case to put the designers behind bars.

The duo plans to appeal, but in the meantime, we wonder if we can expect plenty of stripes from their spring collection this September.

HBO GO & WATCH ESPN NOW ON APPLE TV

As previously reported, HBO Go is indeed coming to Apple TV, effective Wednesday. Apple announced that Watch ESPN and content from an assortment of other streaming providers are now available on the device as well.

Apple TV owners — at least, those with subscriptions to HBO and ESPN — have been able to stream content from those networks using iPhone or iPad devices (and AirPlay) for some time. The new integration simply saves them the need to pull out a secondary device.

For Apple, the deals offer the company a slight advantage over its competitors, including Roku, which doesn’t have access to ESPN, as well as Playstation 3, which doesn’t have access to HBO Go. However, ESPN and HBO Go are already available on the Xbox.

In addition to HBO and ESPN, Apple announced that UK newscaster Sky News is now available on Apple TV, as is Crunchyroll, which specializes in Japanese anime and other Japanese media. Qello, an on-demand streaming service for concerts and music documentaries, is also now available on the set-top device.

In conjunction with the announcement, Apple revealed that users have downloaded more than 1 billion TV episodes and 380 million movies from iTunes to date. On average, 800,000 TV episodes and more than 350,000 movies are purchased from iTunes every day.

Apple TV, which costs $99, allows viewers to watch TV shows and films purchased on iTunes and stream content from providers like Netflix, Hulu Plus, YouTube and more.

RHYMEFEST CONFIRMED WRITING ON KANYE WEST “YEEZUS” ALBUM

From “Jesus Walks” to “Yeezus,” the Kanye West and Rhymefest co-writing connection appears to remain strong 10 years later.

Kanye West’s third solo single of his career, “Jesus Walks” helped launch a career. West’s co-writer on the College Dropout song, a fellow Chicago, Illinois native Rhymefest, would take the 2004 fanfare, including a Grammy Award, and sign a major label deal with J Records and Mark Ronson’s Allido Records.

The pair has collaborated sporadically since, notably on ‘Fest’s own breakthrough 2005 single “Brand New,” but not much in the last five years. Pitchfork has pointed out that Rhymefest, who has since run for alderman in his hometown, is a credited writer within the full liner notes, available exclusively online, to West’s sixth album,Yeezus, released yesterday (June 18). West is listed, as is government name, Che Smith.

The legendary Channel 4 news team has officially come back and brought with them many stories to tell fans through the video. “The Legend Continues” is directed by Adam McKay and produced by Judd Apatow. The second film of the franchise is merely said to center on the continuing on-set adventures of San Diego’s top rated newsman. Featuring a cameo appearance from Drake and Kanye West, the movie is set for a December 20 wide release.

This week, Kaboom! Magazine.com “Wayback Wednesday” takes you back to the days when people used blank VHS & Cassette tapes to record some of entertainment greatest moments. In 1995, Mike Tyson vs. Peter McNeeley, billed as “He’s Back”, was a professional boxing match contested on August 19, 1995. The match marked the return of Mike Tyson to professional boxing after over four years away due to his 1991 arrest and subsequent conviction for rape in 1992 which lead to Tyson serving three years in prison. Tyson was paroled on March 25, 1995 and on March 29, he would hold a short press conference that would announce his return to boxing as well as that Don King would remain his promoter. It was announced that Tyson would face little-known Peter McNeeley. Highly anticipated, the fight was an overwhelming financial success, grossing $96 million worldwide, including a then-record $63 million in Pay-per-view buys with the fight being purchased by 1.52 million American homes. The fight lasted only 89 seconds with Tyson earning an easy victory via knockout.

Danielle Bradbery was declared the winner, marking the third time in a row Team Blake Shelton ruled the competition. It’s a perfect gift for the country music crooner who celebrated his 37th birhday that night. Danielle’s victory was also quite predictable as she has had some of her songs entering the top 10 of iTunes chart.

The runner-up place went to Michelle Chamuel of Team Usher while Blake’s other protege, The Swon Brothers, finished third. Danielle struggled to sing “Born to Fly” as her victory song while overwhelmed with emotion. Shakira hugged the 16-year-old girl, who cried tears of happiness.
